Bangkok Day Choooo...

We started Day 2 with the Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew. It was Wesak Day in Thailand too, so a lot of ppl were at the Wats (temples) praying.

Entrance fee RM25, quite steep actually...

Here's me at the entrance....long pants n toes-covered shoes required to enter.

Wats birdie doing in Bangkok???

Oh wait, its another birdie...

***************************************

We met a few of the warned-about scammers around the Grand Palace/Wat Pho area. Modus operandi is usually to act as officials/guides of the Wats and be helpful towards tourists. What usually transpires will be like this:-

Scammer: Halo, from HOng KOng? China?

Innocent tourists: No, Malaysia.

Scammer : Oh, beautiful country. Arr..yOu want to go into Wat Pho? Today is Wesak Day, so closed already. Re-open at 5.

IT would normally looked bummed on hearing this bit of information.

Scammer: Oh, you wan to see Buddhas? I know this place, Wat Sthing, beautiful diamond encrusted Buddha (ok, it was mayb just bronze or marble), very near here, and Wat SthingElse, they have Crystal Buddha (btw, I give the new Indy Jones movie a 5 outta 10 thumbs).

IT shows a bit of interest...

Scammer: Very near, I can arrange for tuk-tuk, BHT200 only. And i ask tuk-tuk send you for free to Thailand Jewellery Centre. You in luck, today only, 30% discount for tourists..Then after that, come back here, 5pm, this Wat opens.

IT senses something must be too good to be true, yet, the words 30% discounts is just too irresistable, given their greedy nature...so off they goo...

N never to be seen in Bangkok again.....

***************************************

Ohhh, hahaha, not so bad la, never to be seen in Bkk again coz they returned to Malaysia liao depleted of money only. And me n Yshin didnt go...he wanted to but I was wayyyy too smart to be scammed. I know, he's so lucky to have a buddy like me....awww...:-DD

First Nite in Bangkok & Hotel Room- Annotation

I just realised that the title of my previous blog on Bangkok was rather misleading. I mean, it describes perfectly the content on my post coz it was my first night in Bangkok and I did write bout the hotel room.....yet somehow, the title perhaps conjures up some erotic, sexy meaning... Must be due to the words night, bangkok and hotel room all in one sentence...wooooo...... ;-P

So from the title alone, you might have expected to see this.....

Nah!

History of the Middle Finger!

Well, now......here's something I never knew before, and I feel compelled to send it on to my more intelligent friends in the hope that they, too, will feel edified. Isn't history more fun when you know something about it?

Giving the Finger
("fingering"(!!!) curtesy of my colleagues: Connie, Mey, Penny and Aishah, but i won tell you which fingers belong to which:-P)

Before the Battle of Agincourt in 1415, the French, anticipating victory over the English, proposed to cut off the middle finger of all captured English soldiers. Without the middle finger it would be impossible to draw the renowned English longbow and therefore they would be incapable of fighting in the future.

This famous weapon was made of the native English Yew tree, and the act of drawing the longbow was known as "plucking the yew" (or "pluck yew").

Much to the bewilderment of the French, the English won a major upset and began mocking the French by waving their middle fingers at the defeated French, saying, "See, we can still pluck yew!" "PLUCK YEW!"

Since 'pluck yew' is rather difficult to say, the difficult consonant cluster at the beginning has gradually changed to a labiodental fricative 'F', and thus the words often used in conjunction with the one-finger-salute! It is also because of the pheasant feathers on the arrows used with the longbow that the symbolic gesture is known as "giving the bird."

And yew thought yew knew everything!

First Nite in Bangkok & Hotel Room

Pictures of Bangkok ("Bang" added to "Cock"? No wonder its a city famed for its err..colourful 'nightlife'. heh.)

Meant to write up like a real travelogue with as much details as a proper guidebook, but i think i'll be too lazy...ahhaha...so i'll do what i can ok...all from memory, didnt note down each n every detail..

First up, Airasia flight to Bkk at 2020, but was delayed till 2050, to merge with another flight i think. And the smallest plane yet that i've yet to sit it. I dont remember the model of the plane only that it was bumpy all the way to bkk.

We arrived around 2200 and our airport transport driver was there waiting for us. Took around 30 minutes to get to our hotel at Ratchadapisek. Had first taste of Bangkok drivers' driving. Kept us awake, to keep it short.

Checked in and dropped our luggage and straightaway went to a restaurant called Spoon (also in Ratchada, but its a very long road) by taxi. To meet up Keith aka Lau Sau, Yee Shin's Kajang friend who's currently working in Bangkok.

I was so sleepy by then, it was midnight in KL. But on Keith's insistance, I had my first taste (yes, i tasted many firsts in Bkk!!) of their roast pork .... No regrets man!!!! Never had better pork in my life! The perfect merger of lean meat with lard...mama mia....must try!

The dip was amazing too...yummmyyyy porkyyyy....

This is Keith...

This is Spoon, where we went to 2 nights in a row...LIve Band, big screen football and good services. Its just beside the club 'Hollywood".

Pool table too..

One big bottle of Carlsberg was RM12 plus services etc...Yshin was soooo happeeee..

Then the next day................

Well, here's my buddy YeeShin having breakfast at our hotel. We stayed at Watana Mansion. Very nice name, but its more of a guesthouse. We saw a few 'ladies' (wahahhaa, sori, sori, edison's curse...still thought of him whenever i hear or use this word!!:-PPP) around the lobby...haha.. But its rather cheap and clean, so we din mind at all. Yshin 'preferred' it that way most likely..hahaha...Luckily he doesnt read my blog so i can slag him off as much as i like too..;-P

Anyway, our hotel was BHT2,400 for 2 pax double/twin for 3 nights. Inclusive of breakfast and 30 minutes of free internet everyday. And also to and fro airport transfer! Pretty good deal man.. My fren told me normally airport transfer is BHT300-400 one way ler...

So as u can see, the American breakfast is not much, its just sausage, ham and egg and 2 pieces of toast and coffee. But its kira not bad liao. If u get muak of American dy, u can ask for boiled rice with chicken or pork. I tried tat and it turned out to be rather nice porridge.

haha, saw this sign near d lifts....ooohhh, lucky i didnt bring my pet snake along...hahahaa

Farang (thai lingo for gwai lo) swimming in d hotel pool...

Quite clean room... we got twin single beds, so it cant be as 'used' (ie soiled!) as a double bed right...I'm so smart.

Hse mate

This girl who was rather cute came to view the empty small room a while back. [This post will jog ur memory-here ].She's studying chinese medicine, she said. I thought, that's wonderful, i can get free diagnose if i don feel well next time. hehe..

At first she said ok, she'll take the room. A few days later she came with 2 of her friends who are all studying chinese medicine (yipee!3 different diagnoses!) to view the room again. Sinseh 1 (cutie) was really enthusiastic in taking up the room but sinseh No 2 and 3 were not quite as smittened with the room as sinseh 1. So sinseh 1 had no choice but to say that she'll think bout it and let me know soon.

And 1 week passed........

One day i received an Sms from Sinseh Cutie : "Hai, may u collect my deposit 2morrow, coz after this few day i will not at kl..tz.."

(That was verbatim and pardon her grammar, she's studying chinese medicine, not english literature ok. Sinsehs need not spew Shakespearean quotes while dispensing advice on rheumatism right...)

Then i replied: "Tmr i might not be home. After tmr when wil u bac kl?"

After a few minutes, i got her reply......

Sinseh Cutie : "Sorry, wrong number..."

WTwtwt..........muahahhaha...

For those of u still not getting it, apparently sinseh cutie is also a blurhead. She actually wanted to rent another room and had the landlord/landlady's numbers mixed up. It was rather funny and I was lucky i didnt ask her to dispense any medical advice to me...hahhaha....

Sa wA Dee Ka

Hi frens, i'm back from bangkok dy..Land of Smiles (ermm, if i remember correctly la).

I'm sooooo sleepy right now.. coz my Airasia flight landed at 11.30 last night and i slept at 2. Then had to woke up at 8 to got court. Then my dear colleague connie threw me a last minute pile of shit so i had to go to another matter and waited for the judge for 2 1/2 hours. Bleurghh... with all those waiting and rude court interpreters and pretentious lawyers, I wonder if i will really miss my litigation days next time....

I digress...coming back..

So, I'm now nursing my sore wobbly legs, tofu thighs, and jelly backside from the hours and hours of walking in bangkok. My age is mayb finally catching up on me? Its really frightening to know that i'm gonna turn 28 this year. But 28 sounds auspicious..hahah...some consolation..

More moro...gotta go...old lady with zombie face needs to go home liao!
